Former Head Volleyball Coach Karen Chisum announced on December 9, 2019 she would be retiring after 40 years coaching at Texas State. The legendary coach has a 919-559-3 career record as the head coach of the Maroon and Gold, making her the third NCAA Division I coach to reach 900 wins, and the fourth all-time to do it at one program.
In her years as the head coach, Chisum garnered eight Conference Coach of the Year honors, led the Bobcats to 20 conference championships, and is responsible for the Bobcats' only NCAA Tournament victory to date when they topped Rice 3-1 in the first-round in 2018.
Chisum, a Texas State Distinguished Alumni honoree, became the first female to be accepted for membership in the "T" Association's Hall of Honor. The 1972 Southwest Texas State alum competed as a softball and tennis student - athlete prior to her beginning her Texas State coaching career when she was named an assistant coach in 1978. Two years later Chisum was named the fifth head coach in program history.
Chisum's dedication and service to Texas State has not gone unnoticed. Alumni, donors, and friends collaborated to establish the Karen Chisum Endowed Scholarship in 2014. This scholarship is awarded on an annual basis to a Texas State volleyball student - athlete who has a 3.0 overall GPA and displays loyalty, passion, and commitment to Texas State Athletics.
To thank Chisum for her legendary commitment to Texas State, we are asking you to make a gift to the Karen Chisum Endowed Scholarship. Continue her legacy by making a gift of $40, $400, 4,000, or any dollar amount to celebrate Chisum's 40 years of excellence.
